What part of London should I book for my hotel during our family vacation? Likely a safe part with lots of tacky tourist shops and stuff. Also, any other additional travel tips for a family from DC going to London for a March vacation (weather, etc) will be much appreciated! Thank you kindly!!

I have tried using Travelocity and such and it's just a pain because I find a hotel for a good price and a good location, only to find out that the hotel is booked or the price was for a single person only and can't fit 2 people in the room or the room has a shared bathroom with another hotel room, etc. I am looking for a hotel thats in the ballpark of $115.00 (US dollars), and that is in the main touristy section of London so I can walk to the main sites. I need the hotel for the night of Friday April 6.

I will be in London for a few days this summer. I want a hotel that isn't too expensive, but still near everything! Where is the best area to stay?
